Overview
When creating a QR Code you'll generally choose between a Static QR Code and a Smart QR Code.
Understanding the difference helps you choose the right option for your project.
Static QR Codes
A Static QR Code permanently stores its destination inside the QR Code itself.
Once created, it cannot be changed.
If the destination changes, a completely new QR Code must be generated and printed.
Advantages
- Works without any redirect service
- Suitable for permanent information
- Simple to create
Limitations
- Cannot be edited
- No scan analytics
- Requires reprinting when information changes
Smart QR Codes
A Smart QR Code stores a secure reference instead of the final destination.
Sqanna manages where visitors are redirected.
This allows you to update the destination whenever needed.
Advantages
- Change destinations anytime
- Track scan statistics
- Reuse printed QR Codes
- Support advanced redirect features
Limitations
- Requires an active Sqanna account
- Depends on the Smart QR Code service
Which should I choose?
Choose a Static QR Code if:
- The information will never change
- You don't need analytics
Choose a Smart QR Code if:
- The destination may change
- You want scan statistics
- You're printing marketing material
- You want to future-proof your QR Codes
For most businesses, Smart QR Codes provide significantly more flexibility.
